An afternoon of reflection took place at the amphitheatre of Campus Faidherbe on the initiative of the Institut de management de l\u2019administration publique (IMAP). The topic of the day was the new relationship between Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0panel\u00a0was\u00a0moderated\u00a0by\u00a0Jean-Marc\u00a0Pisani, EU Ambassador to Senegal and Amadou\u00a0Diop, Senior Foreign Affairs Advisor of exceptional class.\u00a0Representatives\u00a0of the two continental\u00a0entities, these\u00a0diplomats\u00a0raised the subject in\u00a0front\u00a0of a\u00a0young\u00a0audience composed\u00a0mainly\u00a0of\u00a0students\u00a0from our various\u00a0programmes, but also of\u00a0learners\u00a0from the International Centre for European Training\u00a0(CIFE)\u00a0who\u00a0came\u00a0for the exchange\u00a0programme.<\/p>\n
Amadou\u00a0Diop\u00a0posed the\u00a0subject\u00a0in the\u00a0context\u00a0of a modern world\u00a0made up\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0past\u00a0marked by European domination.\u00a0He\u00a0stressed\u00a0that there\u00a0had obviously been\u00a0many\u00a0changes\u00a0in the\u00a0relations\u00a0between\u00a0the two\u00a0continents.\u00a0This culminated in the first\u00a0summit\u00a0between\u00a0the two\u00a0entities\u00a0in 2000 in Egypt.\u00a0This\u00a0type\u00a0of\u00a0meeting\u00a0marked\u00a0a new turning point in\u00a0relations\u00a0between\u00a0Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n
Only,\u00a0at the same time, Amadou\u00a0Diop\u00a0stressed\u00a0that many\u00a0programs\u00a0had implemented, especially in\u00a0partnerships\u00a0for the\u00a0realization\u00a0of\u00a0infrastructures\u00a0of various\u00a0kinds.
\nHowever, he\u00a0concluded\u00a0that the\u00a0record\u00a0of the\u00a0Africa-Europe\u00a0partnership\u00a0is \u201chistorically\u00a0mixed.\u00a0According\u00a0to him, Europe\u2019s\u00a0priorities\u00a0have been much more advanced to the\u00a0detriment\u00a0of those of\u00a0Africans.\u00a0This vertical vision should become horizontal so that priorities are more balanced,”\u00a0said\u00a0the Senegalese diplomat.<\/p>\n
Following this, the EU Ambassador returned to the current configuration of relations between the two continents. He argued that Europe and Africa have changed. According to Jean-Marc Pisani, this change naturally implies a paradigm shift, which is now a reality.<\/p>\n
Indeed, he pointed out that yesterday\u2019s challenges are not those of today. Ambassador Pisani argued that new areas of collaboration are a priority. He added: \u201cThe challenges of food and pharmaceutical sovereignty, the availability of energy, the construction of infrastructure, the preservation of the environment, among others, are common to Europe and Africa, and it is in this direction that we will have to move forward.\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re trying to do with the Senegal Emergent Plan,\u201d he explained.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
